Privacy Policy

Keepen is a private board for the people you love, and the short version of this policy is the promise the app opens with: what you write never leaves your phone.There is no account, no sync, and no server holding your board. We couldn't read your notes if we wanted to, because they are never sent to us.

The rest of this page spells out where that leaves the handful of things that do involve a network — and it covers both the Keepen app and this website.

Your board stays on your device

Everything you put into Keepen — people, their faces, notes, dates, events, journal-style details, your own name and avatar — is stored in the app's private storage on your phone. It is not uploaded, not backed up to our servers (we don't have any for it), and not visible to us or to anyone else. Deleting the app deletes the board with it.

What we never do

  • No analytics or tracking of what you write on your board.
  • No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
  • No selling, renting, or sharing of personal data — there is nothing on our side to sell.
  • No account, so there is no profile of you to build.

Contacts

If you choose to fill your board from your address book, Keepen asks the system for read-only access, shows you a preview, and imports only the people you pick. The import happens entirely on the device: nothing from your address book is transmitted anywhere, and the app never writes back to your contacts. If you skip this, the app never asks.

Microphone

You can speak a question instead of typing it. The audio is transcribed as you talk by a speech model running on the phone; no recording is saved to disk and no audio ever leaves the device. Microphone access is only requested if you use this feature.

The helper runs on your phone

Keepen's AI features run entirely on the device. When you download a language or speech model, the app fetches the model files from their publisher's host the way any download works — that host sees an ordinary web request (your IP address and the file asked for), and nothing about you or your board. Once downloaded, the model generates every word locally: your notes are never sent to a cloud AI service, and there is no cloud fallback.

Reminders and notifications

Reminders about birthdays and events are scheduled locally by the operating system on your phone. The wording of a reminder is composed on the device, and the dates behind it are never uploaded.

The app also includes OneSignal for ordinary push notifications. It is kept switched off until you enable notifications; only then does the app register a push subscription, which gives OneSignal a push token and basic device information (device model, OS version, app version, language). That record contains nothing from your board — no names, no dates, no notes. OneSignal's own practices are described in their privacy policy.

Keepen Pro purchases

Keepen Pro is the one thing in the app that isn't local, because a purchase can't be. Payment is handled by Apple's App Store or Google Play — we never see your card or billing details. To know whether Pro is unlocked, the app uses RevenueCat, which processes the store receipt under an anonymous identifier and answers with an entitlement. What crosses the wire is a receipt and a yes-or-no; your board is never attached to it. RevenueCat's practices are described in their privacy policy.

This website

The website runs no analytics and sets no tracking cookies. If you join the waitlist, we store the email address you give us (and which form on the page it came from) with Resend, our email provider, and use it for one thing: telling you when Keepen is out. You can have your address removed at any time — use the unsubscribe link in anything we send, or just ask.

Deleting your data

  • Your board:it's on your phone, so it's yours to delete — remove people and notes in the app, use the app's reset, or delete the app itself.
  • Waitlist email:ask us and it's gone, or unsubscribe from the first email.
  • Push subscription: turn notifications off, or delete the app.
  • Purchase records: managed by the store you bought through, under that store account.

Children

Keepen is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them — which is made easier by the fact that we collect almost none from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date at the top. A change that weakened the promise above — that your board stays on your device — would be a different app, not a policy update; we have no plans for one.
